Of all cruises you find in your local travel agent, there will certainly be more than a few around the Greek Islands. But there are a couple of things you need to look out for, or at least pay attention to, when choosing your cruise package.
Recently, there has been an increase in large cruise liners doing the Mediterranean route. Although very comfortable and, sometimes, incredibly cheap, these huge ships weren’t design to cruise the shallow waters of the Mediterranean sea and have limited options in terms of what harbors they can use. You’ll get a lot more for your money if you decide to go on one of the smaller ships, which can take you virtually anywhere in the astonishing Greek Islands.
Next, there is the issue of where you’ll be taken and when you’ll be traveling. Don’t underestimate this, as the best Greek cruises I’ve been on where those who did most, if not all, their traveling during the night. And nothing compares to waking up to a different island every day. So before you pick a cruise, make sure you research as much as you can about the islands where it travels to. Santorini and Crete always sound amazing, but if you’re getting there at the height of the cruise season and you’ll spend more time queuing to get to the island than on the island itself, you have to agree it’s just not worth it.
