The countries of the (EU) European union do not require passports to travel between them. Any individual seeking a better economic opportunity in another member country can just travel to that nation and take up residence. He or she will also be free to seek employment, if it can be found, in that country. This policy allowing people to freely emigrate among EU nations is similar to an American from one state moving to another state for employment or any other reason.

There are people who both oppose and support this policy. People in the nations receiving these people fear their employment chances will be jeopardized by those who emigrate to their country. Those in need of employment are quite supportive of this freedom the policy gives them. Whether people agree or disagree, this is the set policy of the European Union and it will not be changed.

For thousands of years people would emigrate from one place to another. As far back as the time of the Roman Empire this took place. Emigration at one time was used interchangeably with the concept of migration. As long as you meet the set criteria of the destination country, you should be free to call this new country your home.
