Some people will open a map of the world when they are trying to decide where to go on vacation. Once they choose an area, such a Europe, Africa or Asia or maybe Canada, they then narrow there choices by doing some research to find what special events or festivals will be taking place. A trip to Japan in the Spring is when you can take part in the Cherry Blossom festival.

If you made plans to go to Europe during the winter months, those who love to ski can book their stay at a ski resort and experience new slopes. Skiing in France will take you to the French Alps which are diverse and often referred to as being legendary. Chamonix is one of the better known villages for skiing and for high altitude alp skiing, you can find out more about Les Arcs or Val Thorens.

Knowing all about where you will go can only increase your knowledge of that area, making your trip more enjoyable. Reading online what others have said about that destination you want to visit, will help you decide if it is right for you or not. Wherever in the world you want to go, be sure to educated yourself first so you are not taken by surprise later.

The lake district is one of the loveliest vacation spots in England and holidaying in one of the many cottages in the lake district is more popular then ever before this year in Cumbria. However, if you go during the high season, and stay on and around Lake Windermere, it can be an extremely crowded place where its beauty may be compromised by flocking tourists… If you like crowds that’s fine, but if not, you can either go during non-peak times or else branch out a bit. Non peak times are ok if your schedule is flexible but many people don’t have that option, so what I prefer is to go to Coniston Water instead of staying on Windermere.

Coniston is every bit as pretty as Windermere but for some reason seems to have fewer visitors. Coniston has many items of interest, such as the home of the artist John Ruskin and the lake was the site of several speed records that were set by Malcolm Campbell and his son Donald. Donald was tragically killed during one of the attempts to set a new record. In addition, the popular children’s series, Swallows and Amazons, by Arthur Ransome was based on many features on and around Coniston. The island called Wildcat Island in the books is based on Peel Island in Consiton, and it’s possible to swim to Peel Island from the shore, or if a person is feeling less adventuresome, perhaps convince a local youth to ferry them over in a small boat.

The water is very cold most of the year, so swimming might not be the best choice! In addition to the lake, there are several peaks around the district that afford wonderful hiking trails, and the views from the tops are lovely (unless the fog has obscured everything of course). Fog on the fells can come in quickly and cause the hiker to become disoriented so it’s important to be aware of the weather and to be prepared in case of fog.

There are of course many colourful and interesting shops and restaurants in the area, but not all are open year round, so if you are there during the off season it’s best to check ahead if you have a particular spot in mind. There are also many lovely Bed and Breakfast establishments, many directly on the water and very reasonably priced, but the best digs have to be lake district cottages as these offer peace and a place to escape the other travellers. As an added treat, for the fans of Swallows and Amazons, the house that Arthur Ransome used as a basis for the farm where the Swallows stayed in the book is an actual farm which operates as a Bed and Breakfast on the bank of Coniston Water.

Walking holidays is the new trend now in traveling, and that is to go on a vacation where people combine walking with sightseeing. Combining the good health benefits of long distance walking with sightseeing seems to be catching on. More and more people are going for this type of holiday, and one such vacation spot to do this is in Spain. Spain is a very diverse country, both geographically and culturally, especially for its size. There are many places to go and enjoy long walks while sightseeing. A popular walking spot is a place known as the Way of St.James, locally known as Camino Santiago. This walk is also a pilgrimage for many people, and it started nearly 1000 years ago.

Pilgrims come from all over the world to take part in this famous walk. People, who plan on doing the entire span of this walk, should start at St. Jean Pied de Port, located in the Pyrenees in France. Those who do this entire walk come back from it feeling like they have taken part in something special. If going on a religious walk is not your thing, then walking around one of Spain’s many cites and towns can be equally exhilarating. Cities such as Barcelona, Madrid, Seville have enough sightseeing options for the avid walker.

Out of these cities Barcelona is perhaps the most popular for walking and sightseeing. The amount of sights and sounds this city offers is truly amazing. A big attraction of Barcelona are the parks. The name of the parks are Parc Guell and Parc de la Ciutadella. What makes Parc Guell unique are the stunning structures created by the famous architect Antoni Gaudi. This park will take at least half a day worth of walking to see all of the creations. Parc de la Ciutadella is famous for its zoo and lake.

The next place to go for a walk, although relatively short, is the La Rambla. This is the name of a busy street which stretches a little over a kilometer and it is brimming with street vendors and performers. If you get hungry from walking back and forth, then there are plenty of excellent cafes to choose from. If you still have energy left after walking around La Rambla, then continuing the walk to see the center of old Barcelona is a popular thing to do. The area is known as Barri Gotic. The walk to this area involves winding through many streets. Along the way you will pass by squares and buildings dating back to medieval times. The bottom line is that taking a walking holiday in Spain will never be boring.

At Virgin Holidays, we believe amazing service should come as standard. That’s why Virgin Holiday’s magic touches are made available to all Virgin Holidays customers – not just the VIPs!

We realise that you want to make the most of being on holiday, so we came up with Check in, Chill out, so you can check in for your flight without leaving the beach…or bar. Airports are a drag. The holiday only really starts when you get to your destination. And if you’ve got kids, then airports are living nightmares. So, to perk up the airport experience, we came up with the VRoom. And when you’re on holiday, you want to make sure it’s as good as it can be. That’s where Virgin Holidays’ Concierge service comes in – a concierge actually tuned in to the buzz of your destination, not a guy in a suit on kick backs from rip-off restaurants. This belief is what sets Virgin Holidays apart from the competition. That’s why we actually encourage our customers to ‘Ask For the World’.

But how do you express that exclusive treatment in a single thought. What do Virgin Holidays offer that no-one else does? We think it can be described as…

“ROCKSTAR SERVICE”

It’s a level of care you’d normally associate with the glamour and excitement of the entertainment elite. Made available to every Virgin Holidays customer.

The Rockstar Service campaign is the latest creative expression of this belief. With Virgin Holidays, you can rest assured that you’ll get intuitive, imaginative typically brilliant twinkle-in-the-eye Virgin service, every single time you travel with us.

When tired of all the stress at work, there’s nothing like taking a short holiday somewhere where you can relax and get your mind off what’s bothering you. My favorite place for an escapade such as that is Majorca.

Square in the Mediterranean Sea, Majorca is part of the group of islands called the Baleares. You probably know its sister island, Ibiza, better than Majorca. Being a major hub for a few low-cost airliners it’s relatively easy and definitely cheap to get there. Also, instead of staying at a hotel you can follow the tradition of staying in one of the many holiday villas in Spain. This should also help you with the relaxation, as you won’t be on anyone’s schedule but your own, and you won’t have to deal with hotel staff of neighbors.

Rent a car and explore the island or, if you’re not so inclined, take a towel and relax by the beach. The island’s beauty is absolutely stunning and the water is clear and warm. There will be, however, one stress factor in all of it: knowing that you’ll eventually have to leave. So come on down to sunny Spain and take a load off, you’ll be better off for it.

There is nothing quite like hitting the trail on a fresh summers’ morning. The air is crisp and the ground slightly damp due to the early morning dew. Hiking is a great sport to enjoy at a next to nothing cost. It presents a great opportunity for the whole family so spend some time together and a healthy way to experience the great outdoors.

Getting your hiking attire spot on is an important aspect of your hike to consider if you want to maximise your enjoyment, whilst eradicating safety concerns too.

Picking the right hiking gear can be a tricky process, and there is a definite gulf in quality available in the market place. There are some more-general tips to adhere to though to make the most of your choices.

It is always wise to wear a form of hat when hiking, especially when it is sunny. A hat provides adequate protection of the eyes from the glare of the sun, as well as keeping your head cool. There are some hats with side tassels which can protect the ears from sunburn too.

Footwear is also a vital area to consider and it is best to choose a pair which offer adequate whole-foot support which are study enough to withstand long walks on uneven and uncertain surfaces. Heavy duty cotton socks should also be worn to prevent blistering or skin aggravation.

Dependant on the climate you are hiking in, the number and style of upper body garments will vary. For warmer weathers, a light coloured t-shirt which will reflect the sun will be a safe choice, with the accompaniment of a lightweight fleece, in case the weather turns chilly. In colder climates a long sleeve shirt would suffice. Craghoppers have an extensive range of outdoor garments to suit any weather condition.

Should the hike be through any woodland area, it would be wise to protect yourself against the risk ticks, sharp branches and nettles by wearing rigid jeans of cargo pants.

Stay safe this hiking season and happy trails!

This is probably the most important landmark in downtown Vienna. With a metro station located right beside it and a major tourist square right in front of it, it’s one of those places that after a few hours walking around the center of the town you’ll be able to find with your eyes closed. The surrounding square is a hotspot for street performers, vendors and street artists, giving a very picturesque setting to one of the most unique Romanesque churches in the World. The township of Vienna spends a lot of money keeping its major landmark in excellent shape, which may lead to part of it being covered by scaffolding. Fortunately, the Austrians were clever enough to cover the scaffolding with a lifelike picture of what they’re renovating, so you’ll always get the feel of what you’re missing.

With the multitude of tour buses and low-cost flights to Vienna that arrive at the city at every hour, the church is constantly being visited by tourists, which may at times disturb the devout that go there to pray in those awesome surroundings. So please keep that in mind when visiting it. Also don’t forget to take a peek at the catacombs, which are truly amazing.

This policy allowing people to freely emigrate among EU nations is similar to an American from one state moving to another state for employment or any other reason.

There are people who both oppose and support this policy. People in the nations receiving these people fear their employment chances will be jeopardized by those who emigrate to their country. Those in need of employment are quite supportive of this freedom the policy gives them. Whether people agree or disagree, this is the set policy of the European Union and it will not be changed.

For thousands of years people would emigrate from one place to another. As far back as the time of the Roman Empire this took place. Emigration at one time was used interchangeably with the concept of migration. As long as you meet the set criteria of the destination country, you should be free to call this new country your home.
