Spending holidays in the countryside used to be the paramount of healthy holidays. They always involved long hikes outdoors, maybe complimented with bike rides, swimming and a lot of outdoor cooking. And, of course, for those without the luck of having a house in the countryside, camping out.

Camping is incredibly fun. It’s been given a bad reputation, but it really doesn’t deserve it. Self catering holidays are the way to go: you stay where you want, you’re free to go wherever you want and you make your own schedule. And I know what I’m talking about, since I’ve been camping since I can remember. In fact, there are pictures that prove that I was camping before I could remember.

Fortunately, camping grounds are coming back in force, and are popping up a little all over the place. And not just by the countryside anymore.

Packing up your bags and your tent and going to a camping site near the beach is an excellent choice for a virtually inexpensive holiday. I usually say that if wherever you’re sleeping in matters so much, then you’ve got your priorities wrong. And there’s nothing I like best than to wake up to the smell of grass, trees and singing birds.
